A No Phone Line Systems are most popular in
apartments and condominiums where some residents
may not have outside phone service. A resident
phone will function as normal for incoming and
outgoing calls. But when a guest in the lobby
enters a resident's code in the lobby phone the
resident's phone will
switch to the intercom mode and sound a distinct
ring. The resident can then speak to the resident
and then release the door for the guest to gain
access. The lobby phone can be either an auto-dialer
or a programmable phone system.
Function
The
No Phone Line System does not require the resident
to have outside phone service, only a telephone
wired to the service panel of the facility. The
No Phone Line System avoids the monthly expense
of an independent phone line. The
No Phone Line System switches between outside
phone service to intercom mode by
an interposing relay installed on each residences'
phone line. The interposing relay default state
is to permit normal phone service, when a residence
code is activated by a guest on the lobby phone
the relay changes states to the intercom mode.
Limitations
While the No Phone Line System eliminates the expense of an outside phone line, users loose some of the flexibility of a phone system that uses a phone line. Some are:
- The residents can not use their cell phone as a contact phone.
- Residents loose their internet connection when a guest enters their code in the lobby phone.
- The No Phone Line System initial investment in materials and labor is significantly higher then a telephone entry system that uses an independent phone line.
- No Phone Line System design requires all residents to have a phone wired to the incoming service panel, even if they do not have normal phone service.
- To design a proper system an accurate count of all residences is required.
