Photo Eyes & Pnuematic Edges

UL 325 and OSHA require all gate operator systems to have some form of reversing device to prevent entrapment of individuals during the gates open and close cycle. To learn more about safe gate operator systems and UL 325 go to the UL 325 page.

photoeyePhoto eyes come in two configurations, retro-reflective and through beams. Both designs transmit then receive an invisible modulated light. When the light is interrupted by an individual or a vehicle the photo eye will activate. The Retro-reflective photo eye has a transceiver contained in a single housing. The light is transmitted to a mirror then reflects it back to the receiver. The mirror must be kept clean and aligned. The retro-reflective is best limited to gates with a maximum opening of 18 feet. Otherwise heavy rains, snow and airborne dust can cause phantom operation.

The Through Beam photo eye is reliable on gate up to 50 feet wide. A transmitter and receiver are installed on opposite sides of the gate. Because the modulated light is not diffused by a mirror the alignment is easier and phantom operation caused by airborne particles are virtually eliminated.

Photo eyes will recognize both vehicles and personnel. Where truck traffic is present it is necessary to use two sets of photo eyes installed at different heights to recognize both cars and tractor trailers.

edgePneumatic Edges are hermetically sealed switches meant to recognize personnel and not vehicles. If the seal is damaged by a vehicle or user abuse then the gate edge will fail. Pneumatic edges mounted on the lead and trailing edge of the gate can be radio controlled to avoid wires that can potentially entangled in gate hardware. Hardwired pneumatic edges should also be installed on stationary post that may be pinch zones when the gate is opening and closing.

  Photo Eyes
photo_eye_reflec Manufacture: Tri-Cor | Model: Retro Reflective | PDF Literature
Part No:

Tri-Cor retro-reflective photo eyes are easy to install for residential gate openings less then 18 feet wide. Install the photo eye on the same side of the gate that the operator is installed and the reflector on the opposite side - wire and align and the installation is complete. No saw cutting to pull wires to the other side for power.

  thru_beam Manufacture: Tri-Cor | Model: Through Beam| PDF Literature
Part No:

Tri-Cor through beams are designed to provide trouble free operation for commercial gate up to 50 feet. The transmitter sends a powerful modulated light that can penetrate virtually any heavy rain, snow airborne dust conditions. The photo eye receiver is installed by the gate operator and the transmitter is installed on the opposite side of the opening. The receiver requires power either from the gate operator or a optional transformer.

  Pnuematic Edges
edge_kit Tri-Cor Pneumatic Edge Kit With Radio Control
Part No:

Tri-Cor pneumatic edges for lead and trailing edge of slide gates are radio controlled, avoiding the need for wires that can wear or break when the gate opens and closes. They can be used to reverse or stop the gate operator. The kit contains a radio receiver and hardware necessary to install the edge to the gate. A radio receiver is required to be wired to the operator. Stock pneumatic edges color is yellow

Part No:

Tri-Cor pneumatic edges for installation on stationary objects such as gate post and strike post can be wired direct to the operator. They are also used to stop the gate. Stock pneumatic edges color is yellow

Pneumatic gate edges are available to mount to round and square post. They are also available in custom lengths. Consult Tri-Cor 1.800.249.0674 for special applications.
